Inspired by the Africa Study Bible

We as Christians often underestimate the power and authority that we have been given through Christ. We have no reason to be fearful because we have been given all the tools that we could possibly need for “battle”. We know that the enemy is not people, but the evil of the dark world that has taken over. We know who we are fighting and what we’re fighting for. We know how to prepare for what’s coming, and we have the strongest warrior on our side in Jesus.

Physical armour is different than the armour of God. The armour of God protects our spiritual beings rather than our physical self. The armour of God is meant to be put on every day, whereas physical armour is only put on when needed. Because of what God’s Word tells us, we know that every day is a battle. We know that God’s armour is different than earthly armour because it is indestructible. Physical armour breaks with wear and tear, but the armour of God is like new every day. It is always accessible at any moment, unlike physical armour.

The armour of God is not meant to be put on in pieces. It is one, whole set that must be worn completely. You cannot put on only the belt of truth and the sandals of peace, but leave off the rest of the pieces. Every piece must be worn at all times in order for it to take the most effect in our lives. The armour of God has a job to do if we allow it.

The armour of God has the ability to change our daily lives. We know that we will experience hardships, persecution, and warefare during our time on earth. The Bible has warned us about what is to come. After all, Jesus said “when” and not “if” you experience trials. We have an advantage over evil because we have been given a “heads up” before the battle starts. God has given us extra time to prepare and armour up. We have already been given every tool that we could possibly need, all we have to do it use it and let God fight for us.

“God’s word must be in our hearts and minds. We must know the trust in the Bible so we can detect the lies of the devil, who is the father of lies (John 8:44). It is only by putting on the whole armour of God that believers can stand firm in Christ.

Application note from Ephesians 6:10-20 of the Africa Study Bible

What a word of encouragement. It’s hard to realize how much fear we create in our own minds until we remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We can detect the lies of evil based on what we know to be true by Scripture. Today and every day is a day to wake up and armour up in the name of our protector and defender, Lord Jesus
