In the heart of Kogi State, Nigeria, a quiet but powerful movement is taking place. It’s happening in classrooms, under mango trees where children gather after school, and in the homes of families who never thought they’d own a Bible in English.

And it’s happening because people like you made it possible.

The Need: A Bible They Could Understand

Pastor Phillip Dekina Wallah, Head of Missions at Bible Christian Fellowship, has a calling: to disciple children and help them grow in the Lord. But he noticed a heartbreaking gap—children who were hungry for the Word of God but had no Bible to read for themselves.

Most families in Kogi State own a Bible only in the local vernacular. But the children here are taught in English and are eager to read Scripture in that language. The problem? English Bibles are scarce and costly, and the few available versions are often difficult for young readers to understand.

Phillip says, “We saw a crucial need. Then we learned about Oasis International and the New Living Translation (NLT) Africa Edition Bibles. It was exactly what we had been praying for.”

The Gift: 100 NLT Bibles

Earlier this year in May, Phillip’s ministry received 100 New Living Translation Africa Edition Bibles through the God’s Word for Africa program.

By August, most had already been placed in the hands of children between the ages of nine and 15.

The NLT’s clear, natural language immediately drew them in. They could read and understand Scripture for themselves. Even older people in the community began asking for it.

The Impact: Testimonies from the Children

Phillip visits schools, hosts outreaches, and works alongside the Child Evangelism Fellowship to distribute Bibles. They also train Sunday School teachers and Good News Club leaders—ensuring that the Bibles are used for discipleship, not just ownership.

During the school holidays, these Bibles have become treasured companions for the children. And their words tell the story best:

  • “I am grateful for this Bible because during Fellowship of Christian Students, I didn’t have a Bible to go with.”
  • “Our Christian Religious Studies teacher told us to buy a Bible, but I didn’t have the money. I struggled to do my assignment. Now I can.”
  • “Uncle, for giving me this Bible, you will not die on time.” (A heartfelt way of wishing long life and blessing!)
  • “I pray that this Bible will help me know Christ better.”

Each testimony is a glimpse of a life touched, a heart opened, and a seed planted for eternity.
